Time Warner (Road Runner) DNS Preferences
UPDATE: Disable Verizon DNS Search

I recently signed up for Time Warner’s broadband internet service at $29.95 for 6.0 Mbps. I really like the service because it is really fast and not a lot of people have internet in my area so it doesn’t slow down in the evenings.

One of the things I found annoying is that whenever I mistyped a website it redirected me to their search page instead of the one I had set in my browser. Their phone support was not helpful, as the representative didn’t even know what DNS was. I ended up finding the solution online. You can click on the link at the top of the page or change your preferences here:

You have to visit this link from your home computer, the page will use your IP address to set the preferences. From what I gathered on forums, if you have a dynamic IP address this setting needs to be updated every time your IP address changes, how annoying.

If you try to do this from another computer (e.g. work), it will automatically redirect you to a “preferences locked” page. There is no way to update this for a family member remotely. Honestly, this should be part of the account profile and persist through IP address changes.

  1. I just want to say I’m newbie to blogging and site-building and certainly enjoyed you’re website. Almost certainly I’m likely to bookmark your site . You absolutely come with remarkable stories. Thanks for revealing your web-site.

  2. Hello just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The words in your post seem to be running off the screen in Chrome. I’m not sure if this is a formatting issue or something to do with browser compatibility but I figured I’d post to let you know. The design look great though! Hope you get the problem solved soon. Kudos
